The Alaska Milk Corporation’s (AMC) AlasKabuhayan Livelihood and Nutrition Program held in Subukin Port, Barangay Subukin, San Juan, Batangas on 8 March 2022 in collaboration with Gandang Juana, a women-led non-profit organization based in San Juan, Batangas. This the second leg of the livelihood session following the program held last 28 February in Rosario, Batangas in partnership with Women Empowerment in Rosario for Inclusivity, Solidarity and Equality (WeRise).
A total of 120 promising small business entrepreneurs mixed with women fisherfolks participants who have no means of livelihood during off-season months joined the livelihood session, where delectable recipes such as Chicken Ala King Empanada, Creamy Beef Caldereta, Fish Sipo, and Ube Macapuno Scramble were prepared through a live cooking demonstration led by Chef Christopher “Kai” Padilla.
A nutrition and food safety education l session led by Alakska Milk Regulatory Affairs Manager Ann Marie Villanueva then followed to refresh the participants’ knowledge about healthy eating and proper food preparation.
In celebration of the International Women’s Day, Alaska Milk is proud to join and engage with the women of Gandang Juana as they are still recovering from the economic challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. This day also honors the achievements and contributions of women in different spheres regardless of age or profession and gender parity. “Ngayong araw ay importanteng araw para sa ating mga kababaihan dahil hindi lamang tayo babae, kundi tayo ay mga babae na kayang gawin ang lahat.” shared by Atty. Part of the event program is the Department of Trade and Industry’s business talk wherein Madelyn Maceda, Senior Business Counselor in Negosyo Center – Rosario, Batangas took the stage and discussed how to achieve the right mindset in pursuing their entrepreneurial journey.
“Dapat laging bukas ang ating mga mata at tenga sa mga opportunities natin sa ating mga paligid at tiyaking lahat ng components ng pagiging isang effective na entrepreneur ay ating maisaalang-alang.” Maceda said.
