In preparation for the opening of classes in August, Alaska Milk Corporation (AMC) kicked off a Brigada Eskwela Program at Pasong Kawayan 2 Elementary School in General Trias City, Cavite, last July 29, 2022. This is part of Balik Tanaw (or looking back), the company’s 50th Anniversary Celebration, and as a commemoration of July as the National Nutrition Month.
Pasong Kawayan 2 Elementary School was a past beneficiary of AMC’s Adopt-A-School Milk Feeding Program from School Year 2017 to 2020. More than 400 malnourished schoolchildren from kindergarten to Grade 6 benefited through the three-year implementation of this program in said school. These beneficiaries were given one free glass of milk daily for 120 feeding days. Presently, the school is being supplied with fresh milk by the Department of Education (DepEd).
As part of the program, AMC employees, Parents and Teachers Association (PTA) members, schoolchildren, the Local Government Unit (LGU), and School Division Office representatives cleaned and repainted the school’s Eco-Park. To further Alaska’s vision of nourishing Filipino dreams by providing families, especially children, accessible and affordable nutrition, AMC will renovate the Home Economics Center and incorporate into the decoration educational information related to the Department of Science and Technolgy (DOST) – Food and Nutrition Research Institute’s (FNRI) “Pinggang Pinoy: Healthy Food Plate for Filipinos” Program .
“To be chosen as Alaska Milk’s beneficiary of the Adopt-A-School Milk Feeding Program is already a big help. This program nourishes the students by providing them good nutrition, this certainly contributes to bringing down malnutrition levels not just in our locality but also in the Philippines. Mas nagpapasalamat kami lalo ngayon, hindi lang dahil sa Brigada Eswela sa aming Eco-Park, kundi sa pagpapaayos ng aming Home Economics room. I am sure na mas gaganahan ang mga batang mag-aral at matuto lalo tungkol sa proper at good nutrition,” said Cynthia Pinpin, the school’s teacher-in-charge.
“AMC’s valued commitment to providing nutrition to every Filipino across all stages and occasions of their lives does not only manifest through their efforts to help raise milk consumption levels in the country but also by investing in long-term and beneficial solutions through their AlasKalusugan’s Milk Feeding Program under their AlasKaunlaran Corporate Purpose Responsibility Program, and now through this great opportunity of having Pasong Kawayan 2 Elementary HE room renovated. Indeed, wala pa rin tatalo sa alagang Alaska,” added Schools Division Superintendent of General Trias City, Dr. Doris Estallila.
Deemed as the National Nutrition Month, AMC Regulatory Affairs Manager Joan Sumpio gave a nutritional talk highlighting the importance and the need for complete nutrition on every plate in line with the DOST-FNRI’s “Pinggang Pinoy.” Business IT Head of Alaska, Bryan Leo Asis, and AMC Sales Director, Francisco Idian, opened and closed the program with their messages, respectively.
Attended by more than 250 participants, the Balik Tanaw ended with a ceremonial milk toast headed by AMC Corporate Affairs Director, Atty. Maria Angela N. Esquivel.
