Alaska Milk Corporation (AMC), together with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), partnered with the Simbayanan ni Maria Multi-Purpose Cooperative for AlasKabuhayan in Taguig City last 23 June 2022.
Simbayanan ni Maria, a parish-based cooperative at Our Lady of Holy Rosary Parish in Taguig City, was founded in June 1991. As part of their 31st Anniversary celebration this year, the cooperative partnered with AMC and DTI and invited their small business owners and online seller members to be the beneficiaries of AMC’s AlasKabuhayan Program.
Like AMC’s purpose of providing affordable nutrition, nourishing Filipino dreams, and contributing to nation-building, Simbayanan ni Maria Cooperative was established to alleviate poverty and lift and enhance the lives of Taguigeños.
Simbayanan ni Maria Multi-Purpose Cooperative President and CEO Maricar “Chay” Hernandez opened the program and encouraged the beneficiaries to become better business owners by availing of the different programs of the DTI and learning from livelihood sessions such as AlasKabuhayan.
DTI NCR Representative Nathaniel Andre Cadambog introduced the services of the agency’s Negosyo Centers located in different cities and municipalities in the Philippines and the various programs and support that small business owners can avail themselves of.
The fifty-three (53) women beneficiaries were taught by Chef Kai Padilla through a live cooking demonstration with delectable and nutritious recipes, such as Chicken Ala King Empanada, Creamy Tortang Talong, Milky Ramen, and Creamy Mango Sago. These recipes using different Alaska products can be added to their current menu of items they sell.
AMC’s AlasKabuhayan events are always wrapped up with a nutrition education session led by AMC’s Regulatory Affairs Manager, Anna Marie Villanueva. This session aims to refresh the beneficiaries’ knowledge of healthy eating and proper food preparation.
To immediately jumpstart their businesses, AMC grants the beneficiaries Alaska Starter Kits containing Alaska products used in the cooking demonstration.
AlasKabuhayan is a wordplay between Alaska and Kabuhayan or livelihood. It is a flagship program under AlasKaunlaran, AMC’s main Corporate Purpose Responsibility Program.
